Inauguration

Left: 2013; Right: 2009
Yesterday was an exciting day for the country no matter how you view it. Not only was it MLK day, which also means a day off for most, but it also was Inauguration day for the President of the United States. (On a side note, I also see that most of you had your snow fall that you've been wishing for...) I enjoyed the day outside for the most part, but I did catch the recaps from the event and more importantly the fashion. Leading up to the ball, the buzz was what designer gown the First Lady would wear this year. Although Michelle Obama has shown to stay pretty true to herself, I don't think many expected her to stick with the same designer she had chosen back in 2009.
And so, the man of the hour in the fashion community is non-other than Jason Wu. Who is Jason Wu, you ask? Well, I can help with that.
Jason Wu, designer
Jason Wu, 30, is a young designer that launched his ready-to-wear line back in 2006. He attended Parsons the New School for Design in NYC and is also an avid fashion blogger. He won the Fashion Group International's Rising Star award in 2008, and in the same year was also nominated for the Vogue Fashion Fund award. His early clients included Ivana Trump and January Jones.

Fun fact: Did you know that Jason Wu's first real client was working extensively with RuPaul? JW ultimately designed 6 RuPaul dolls, which is where his background lies in doll design.

Digging a bit more into the First Lady's fashion choice, we've found that she has been very loyal to Wu, wearing his dresses on the cover of Vogue, during the European Tour with the President, and during her visit with the Queen of England. Looks like JW has found a loyal client in Mrs. Obama. Wow! To put this great accomplishment into perspective, just for the Inaugural Ball, it's rumored that 15 designers had submitted designs for the big night. I say having the First Lady on your side is quite the career turner.
