new set finds: Zara

January is so les miserables, there's really nothing good about it. The stores are in their transitional phase, and all I want is to see something NEW. Give me Spring, pleaseee. Anything than the same old sweaters, cords, and blazers that I've been seeing since the beginning of August. We've been lucky enough here to be getting Spring-like, no maybe more like Summer-like weather. It's not supposed to last much more thru the weekend before we drop back down to the 60's, which is still fine by me. It's my first winter out of the doldrums of the northeast where it rains and is depressingly dreary well into May. It's a nice feeling seeing the sun peak through my window and hearing the birds chirp with happiness. Ahhh, I love the feeling that Spring brings.

If you know me, you know I have a love-hate relationship with Zara. If you've never heard of Zara, it's a fashion company based out of Spain that is like a higher end version of H&M, but with less "in your face" trendiness. It's kind of classy. Anyway, I can't go without Zara and would get my fix pretty much all the time when I lived in the city. We're deprived of Zara down here in the south, but their online business has won me over with the free shipping/free returns policy. I pretty much order everything now. Doing my monthly surf thru the site, I wanted to share with you my picks from their new collection. If you've never shopped Zara, well maybe I can convince you otherwise and if you live up in the northeast and haven't stepped foot into one of their stores yet, well, get to it. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, but just know that you can't go wrong walking out with one of their blouses. So check it out!

Whatta'ya Love? Weds (long edit)

This is kind of a long Whatta'ya Love? Wednesday since I've missed the past 2 days.

I also missed the boat on the Golden Globes. Mid-week is a little too late to report on my best dressed, but if you follow me on facebook you know that my overall pick was Jessica Alba. I just thought she looked stunning and completely different than all of the other dresses floating down the red carpet that night. On another note, I heard Taylor Swift is seeing Bradley Cooper? To my thine eyes be true!

I've been not feeling well the past 2 days, fighting off some sort of flu-like and noro-virus like symptoms. I never get the flu shot,  never, and my public health officer husband made it a point for me to get it this year since the activity is so high. Better be safe than sorry I guess. I don't like to medicate much, actually at all. I have a headache, I wait it out before resorting to an Advil. It's just the way it goes. I rather rely on good ol' vitamin C and a multi-vitamin. So far in my 28 years, I've had the flu once and rarely get colds. If I do, they're not killer. Why stop something that works for me? That's my theory. Anyway, I believe the flu-shot produces symptoms about 72 hours later of a relatively mild flu. Those symptoms laced with my over-doing it in the food dept. this weekend, put me on my back.

Since I had a lot of time to catch up on things going on in the inter-webs, I came across an article that has been re-circulated in fault to the Golden Globes, and it hit so close to home that I wanted to share. You may, or may have not seen this posted on other design blogs, but this article pertaining to Tina Fey's success featured in OWN magazine a few years ago has been posted everywhere since her awesome job presenting at Sunday's Globes.

TF speaks of coming from a place of Yes, and how that has in turn helped the success of her career and in her life in ways she never could imagine. I've always had this philosophy when approaching things that terrified me. I account to most of the things I did in my career definitely coming from a place of 'yes' and 'we'll figure it out later'. If I didn't, I would have let fear over-take the opportunities that were presented to me and honestly, wouldn't have ever experienced some of the most life-altering points in my life. 

I found the article a bit ironic since I was just having this conversation with a friend of mine last week. Someone we both care a lot about has been struggling in all aspects of their life, but most importantly with finding an entry-level position after graduating last May. Let's face it, it's hard out there for everyone when it comes to keeping jobs, moving jobs, finding jobs after losing one or starting out in the career you paid good money for. The cream rise to the top, and those that are afraid of what the future holds for them never move forward. The key is pushing the fear out of you, stifling it anyway that you can, separating what your heart and what your head are telling you, and frankly, just saying yes. You want me to do what? Yes, why yes. You want me to go where? Yes, of course, yes. You want to offer me this position? Yes, I'll figure it out later, I can do it! We all are stacked up against the learning curve, but those that meet that challenge and face it head on are propelled ahead. 

Never doubt yourself. Always keep one foot on the ground, but let the rest of you go to find your limits... and most definitely do yourself a favor and come from a place of yes.
