the new "it" girl

Jennifer Lawrence has been spoken about consistently since her debut in the Hunger Games, but things really took off with her Oscar-winning performance in Silver Linings Playbook. After winning the Academy award this Sunday, the internet is completely engulfed with love for Jennifer. I don't blame them. After watching her on the red carpet, I've learned to love her honesty, crassness, and humor.
.......And as the following link suggests, who wouldn't want to be her bff?

Make sure to watch the video clips on the left side... absolutely hilarious.

the Oscars!

Unfortunately, I didn't catch any of the Oscars last night and I'm kind of p'ed. I slept for what felt like 20 hours and missed all of the awards show. What I did catch was about 4 hours of the red carpet coverage. For this instance, that's all I really need. So, let's roll out my top picks from last nights fashion.

My top pick may surprise you, but I absolutely love the dress..............
Jennifer Garner in Gucci
I am obsessed with the back of this dress. I wish there were better photos taken of it, but I can't find a single one that does it justice. The color is like a really beautiful purpley-fuschia.  Love.

Runner-up is non other than Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture. She looked stunning. My only reservation about the dress is how bridal it looked, although most of the red carpet correspondents felt that it veered from that because of her young age. I still felt like I would've loved to float in that at my wedding.
She also nailed it on the accessories. The drop necklace was just what the dress needed. I love that she didn't just throw some million dollar diamond necklace around her neck, which could've been very easy, but certainly not as dramatic or modern.

Last but not least, my 2nd runner-up is a tie.
Amy Adams in Oscar and the Tatums in Gucci
Now seriously, Amy is so fairy-tale like. So angelic and practically perfect. She looked flawless in this light blue Oscar de la Renta gown.
Jenna Dewan-Tatum is probably one of the best looking prego's I've seen on the red carpet. Helps that she's blessed with good genes, but it also doesn't hurt when you have one of the best looking men in Hollywood as your husband beside you. She apparently has a few more months left in her pregnancy and they announced on the red carpet that they will not be slowing down for baby, in fact they have plans to give birth in London where Channing will be on location.

My pick for worst dressed last night went to:
Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra
Here's a thought: it's the Oscars, brush your hair.

That's a wrap on red carpet season. So many amazing looks from last night, much more than I could touch on. Congrats to all the winners, especially Adele and Ben Affleck!

FW: London

London Fashion Week kicked off Feb 15 and ran thru this past Tuesday, Feb 19th. In those few short days, I saw more out of London that made me so happy than I did at Mercedes Benz. Theres just something to be said for the people across the pond.
Temperley London Look 7
Temperley London Look 4
Paul Smith Look 16
Paul Smith Look 6
Matthew Williamson Look 28
Matthew Williamson Look 14
Burberry Prorsum Look 2

Wasn't a fan of the Tom Ford, Issa or L'Wren Scott show. The Moschino C&C show looked like it rolled out of the shore house in Seaside Heights... I yawned. On the other hand, seriously obsessed with the Temperley and Matthew Williamson shows. GAH... they are SO good. London was more impressive to me than all of New York. Their eye, their aesthetic, the color palettes, and the silhouettes are just perfectly put.

Are you inspired?

MBFW: it's a wrap

Well, I just about DIED after seeing the new Fall collection from Rachel Zoe. As one of the last shows of the week last week, I kind of wish it wasn't saved for last (although we all understand why). I love, love, love almost everything that walked her runway. As style.com so aptly put it, she has stepped up her game in this collection and it's shown. I mean, who wouldn't want to wear some of these looks?

Fashion week in New York is dunzo but London is just kicking off. We're not going to follow it as closely as we did this one, but we'll drop in with a few favs from time to time.

MBFW: midweek recap

In light of some recent tragic occurrences to a few former classmates of mine (from my hometown), I took the day yesterday to love a little harder, let life be a little slower, and be thankful for everything in my life right this very moment. If there is one thing I've learned, life doesn't stop for no one, and it's a scary thing when you have to face that fact head on. You hope these kinds of things don't impact you directly, but they do leave ripple effects throughout the community that can be felt deep down. Sometimes little things like blogging, what's in your closet or minor disagreements don't seem to matter as much when you're forced to look at the bigger picture.

Fashion also doesn't stop for much anymore, so below you can find my top looks from the past 2 days on the runway.

3.1  Phillip Lim Look 26

Tory Burch Look 39

MBFW: the start

It's always so hard to look at Fall looks when you feel like you're finally pulling yourself up out of the cold and reaching for the first warm beam of light. I've always kind of had a hard time switching gears to view the Feb runways, (I mean, who wants to think about wool and heavy sweaters?) but I have to say, they're lookin' good.
Here are some of my favorite looks that were shown over the weekend:

Jenni Kayne Look 1
Lela Rose Look 35
DVF Look 2

Christian Siriano Look 33
Christian Siriano Look 16
and here's who will be wrapping up this week:

Check back tomorrow for our fav looks from todays shows.

MBFW

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off yesterday in NYC for the debut of the new Fall 2013 collections. Yes, Fall! The fashion world is light-years ahead of the rest of us, and the way you can always remember how the seasons are shown think this, Spring = shown in the Fall, Fall = shown in the "Spring".
Here's the schedule for the next few days and the weekend (Sorry about it running into the side columns, I wanted you to be able to read it!). You can even watch it live at: http://newyork.mbfashionweek.com/ We'll keep you updated on the 'must see' runway looks throughout next week. Have a great weekend!

ArchetypeMe

Have any of you tried this yet? It's a fun, let's kill a few minutes, quiz that figures out your "Archtype" by how you handle certain things in your life. My results: Fashionista, Creative, Caregiver. I have to say, I'm a little caught off-guard with the Fashionista part of my pie. I mean, that word just breeds bad blood in me... I've always used it in a derogatory-tone. Fashionista?! ekk. But I guess it fits the bill, I am in the world of Fashion, so I guess we all would be categorized as such.

Check it out and have some fun with it.. Perfect mind-bender for a Tuesday.

America, can you handle this?

As if anyone needed to doubt Queen B, herself.....

let's just take a moment to bask in the glory that is DESTINY'S CHILD at yesterday's half-time show.

Oh, Stella

Are you familiar with Garance Doré? Are you familiar with her web series "Pardon My French"? Well, if not... this is a good start. Stella McCartney has always been such a muse for us designer folk, at least for me. She's pretty darn amazing...and quite the inspiration. She's so down to earth, smart and someone you would love to have as a best girl friend. I love in this video how Garance is so star-struck by meeting her favorite designer - giggles, red-face and all. Makes you feel kind of more human, doesn't it? Check it out.

"....I think it's really interesting to approach any industry in a different way. Even if it was just that I only use the color red, you know, I think it's an interesting thing to do in the world that we live in." - Stella McCartney

Worst dressed: SAG awards

Over the weekend was the SAG awards, did anyone catch it? ....yeah, didn't think so. Anyway, it is an awards show, and we're in the business of fashion, so rule #1 is we must analyze all red carpets. It's just like, what we do. Since the SAG awards pretty much got trumped by Downton Abbey - oh our poor Sybil, wah! - we're not going to beat around the bush. Here are the top 3 worst looks from the show.
Julianna Margulies in Chado Ralph Rucci
What went wrong?: Well let's start with how jacked up the dress is on her. The fit of the dress is terrible, the shoes are terrible, and that slit does not soothe the eye. I'm definitely not feeling this look.
Kaley Cuoco  in Romona Keveza
What went wrong?: Kaley's wig, for one. It is a wig, right? It sits like 6" above her hairline. The dress, is too sweet, but to make matters worse it's been shortened beyond anything that would look even remotely appropriate. What would you call this length? I don't think it exists because it's just not flattering. Doesn't she look 2 bodies clicked together?
Lea Michelle in Valentino
What went wrong?: This dress is pretty. Young, but maybe if you're a sex-pot like Angelina Jolie or a super model, you could kill in this dress. Lea Michelle should not have attempted this one, nor should she have attempted the ombre hair-do. She looks like she could be walking the carpet for the premiere of Mean Girls... circa 2004.

It's startling that so many uber-rich, uber-talented, uber-beautiful, uber-styled celebrities can get it so wrong for these shows. They have access to everything that can work SO right for them, yet time and again we always have a worst dressed list. Oh well - I guess, they keep Joan Rivers in business!
